Anti-Slip Sports Coatings

Slippery athletic courts can be a significant safety hazard for players and pose a serious risk of injuries. Fortunately, an anti-slip coating for basketball courts, tennis or pickleball can greatly improve court traction and prevent accidents and injuries. Using an anti-slip paint for sports surfaces is relatively simple and can be done by professional contractors or even homeowners with the right tools and knowledge. However, it is important to properly maintain a safe athletic surface with regular cleaning, crack repair and reapplication of the anti-slip coating to ensure it stays effective.

SportMaster is a family of acrylic paints, coatings and textured finishes specifically designed for sports and recreation pavement surfaces. They can be applied to asphalt or concrete, indoors or outdoors. The products are formulated with a blend of silica sands, polymers and fillers to provide traction and strength under aggressive play. They also adhere to the pavement and stay bonded with it in high traffic areas, unlike house paints that can peel and chip.

Whether you want to give your home a makeover or upgrade your club’s sports surface, our sports coatings are a great solution. The best part is they’re extremely easy to clean and require minimal maintenance. Our coatings are available in a wide variety of colors to match your existing pavement.

The most popular coating for multi use games area sports surfaces is a textured acrylic surface coat that meets the slip resistance requirements of the sports played. It is mainly installed on type 1 and type 2 MUGAs which are generally tarmac/ macadam surfacing. These types of MUGAs are usually line marked with football lines in yellow, netball in white and basketball sports lines in red.

A specialized acrylic resurfacer is used to prep the surfacing for the topcoat, which can be either an acrylic mat or liquid rubber cushion system. The resurfacer fills the voids in the asphalt and creates texture for the cushion granules to “grab” onto during the application process.

When the topcoat is applied, it dries in 30 to 60 minutes under optimum drying conditions. It is recommended to allow 48 hours before allowing foot traffic and play on the surface.

Our CoolTop finishing topcoat reduces the acrylic sports court surface temperature by solar reflectance, allowing athletes to play longer. It is compatible with our mat and liquid rubber cushion systems, including Rebound Ace HSA, Rebound Ace GS8, Plexicushion Prestige and DecoTurf.
